Tucson Arizona - May 17, 2023 - The United Federation LEOS-PBA Law Enforcement Officers Security & Police Benevolent Association had filed an election to represent the 90 plus Transportation Security Officers working for ISS Action in Tucson and Nogales Arizona now presently represented by SPiT-FA a crumbling security guard union located at 25510 Kelly Road Roseville, Michigan 48066 headed by the 70 year old Dave Hickey.
This Union which has been part of SPiT-FA since 2008 reached out to the United Federation LEOS-PBA Law Enforcement Officers Security & Police Benevolent Association for help just a few weeks ago and the United Federation LEOS-PBA organizing team swiftly went into action and answered the call by not only fling a petition with the National Labor Relations Board NLRB but several United Federation LEOS-PBA organizers immediately flew down to Arizona to address the 90 plus ISS Action Transportation Security Officers TSO's questions and concerns.
The 90 plus ISS Action Transportation Security Officers who attended our greet and meet Union meeting cited that SPiT-FA was no where to be found after organizing this group back in 2008. They also cited because of the lack of leadership and transparency by Dave Hickey President of the SPiT-FA international Union, Ryan Kelly SPiT-FA International Vice President and its SPiT-FA local 822 President the 90 plus ISS Action Transportation Security Officers loss confidence in this Union and opted out of the SPi-T-FA union leaving only 12 remaining dues paying members out of 90 plus ISS Action Transportation Security Officers.
Many of the ISS Action Transportation Security Officers also stated that the collective bargaining agreement negotiated by SPiT-FA International President Ryan Kelly was a piece of garbage a CBA forced down the ISS Action Transportation Security Officers throats and had to be ratified within 2 hours after negotiations otherwise they would loses their yearly raises. "Nothing was ever explained to us during the negotiating process and part-timers really took a shafting said one ISS Action TSO officer. Part-timers even have to pay for their own bullets during training".
For example Part-time employees shall enjoy NONE of the seniority benefits under this Agreement, nor shall the be entitled to receive any fringe benefits set forth herein as noted below.
Part-time employees, who after completing their full-time probationary period are thereafter placed on the part-time roster, will retain their full-time seniority; however, they shall not accumulate seniority while working as a part-timer employee. Can SPiT-FA International Vice President Ryan Kelly who negotiated this language Explain what this means because it makes absolutely NO sense!!! You cannot Retain something YOU do NOT Have! Period!
What kind of Union negotiates this type of language on behalf of its members? SPiT-FA!
In addition to the above these ISS Action Transportation Security Officers are paid $25.20 an hour vs the area standard wages of $30.26 per hour not including H&W benefits of $4.20 an hour vs $5.50 an hour. On July 30, 2023 the ISS Action / SPiT-FA CBA is about to expire and the ISS Action Transportation Security Officers state that SPiT-FA has not even asked these TSO's what they want in regards to wages, benefits and other conditions of employment. At this point SPiT-FA hasn't even set up a date for negotiations. What's wrong with this picture?
Based on the filing of our NLRB petition these 90 plus ISS Transportation Security Officers will soon have there opportunity to vote for the United Federation LEOS-PBA Law Enforcement Officers Security & Police Benevolent Association and put an end to the very poor representation they have had for over 10 years by SPiT-FA.
"Upon SPiT-FA President Dave Hickey & company hearing about our organizing drive he immediately started his SMEAR Maritas campaign in his effort to stop this drive while the United Federation and our ISS Action leadership committee continue to take the high road refusing to engage in such a slim ball SPiT-FA campaign. Obviously Hickey's smear campaign is backfiring against him once again, based on the filing of our NLRB petition to represent these 90 plus ISS Action TSO's' in Tucson & Nogales, Arizona noted United Federation LEOS-PBA President Charles CHIP Strebeck.
ISS Action TSO Ken Wallace (l) & United Federation LEOS-PBA Organizing Director Steve Maritas (r).
"Its time to bulldoze the house and rebuild it from the ground up. It's time for the 90 plus ISS Action TSO's to stand up and fight and become part of the Union once again. This is how we will WIN & get the RESPECT, Wages, Benefits & Better Working Conditions these ISS Action TSO officers deserve" noted United Federation LEOS-PBA Organizing Director Steve Maritas.
United Federation LEOS-PBA Director / Organizer Hector Fajardo ISS Action TSO Officer Danny Chavez & United Federation LEOS-PBA Director / Organizer Brikener Jean-Giles show their support for joining the United Federation LEOS-PBA.
Lunch was served to all who attended our Greet & Meet.
