December 9, 2025, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, a Long Island Republican who touts his support of ICE, said he is running for governor of New York, setting up a primary battle with Rep. Elise Stefanik, an ally of President Trump.
“I’m running for governor to put the people of our state first,” Blakeman said in a statement Tuesday. “It’s time for leadership that fixes problems, protects families, and makes New York affordable and safe again.”
On the heels of this announcement by Bruce Blakeman, both the United Federation LEOS-PBA and the LEOS-PBA Executive Boards invited Bruce to attend our Executive Board meeting which was held on December 10, 2025 at which time our unions endorsed Bruce Blakeman as the next Governor of New York.

"Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has always been a friend of law enforcement officers and our Unions and on a single phone call less than 24 hours from making his announcement, Bruce graciously came to our Executive Board meeting to seek our support. Because of this we are happy to be the first law enforcement Union to openly endorse Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman for Governor of New York". noted Charles Chip Strebeck, President United Federation LEOS-PBA
