The U.S. and Israel attacked Iran on Saturday in a massive operation that President Donald Trump said killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei while targeting military capabilities and aiming to eliminate the threat of Tehran creating a nuclear weapon.
There was no Iranian comment on Khamenei. Earlier, two Israeli officials told The Associated Press that he was killed.

BREAKING: Former President Ahmadinejad and Regime Enforcer Shamkhani Eliminated in U.S.-Israeli Strikes.
In a devastating blow to Iran's ruling clique, joint U.S. and Israeli airstrikes have taken out key architects of the regime's terror apparatus.
Ali Shamkhani, longtime senior adviser to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and a central figure in Iran's security and nuclear hardline faction, was confirmed killed by Israeli Defense Forces statements and credible regional reporting.
Former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was also targeted—his residence struck directly in the opening wave of attacks. While some reports indicate he was killed alongside security personnel, official confirmation of his death remains pending amid the fog of war.
The operation forms part of a broader campaign that has already claimed multiple IRGC commanders and defense ministry officials, aimed squarely at breaking the ayatollahs' iron grip.
President Trump and Israeli leadership have framed the strikes as a clear message: the regime's days of unchecked aggression are numbered. The Iranian people now have a historic opening to reclaim their future.
Shamkhani and Ahmadinejad represented two faces of the same repressive machine—one the shadowy security czar, the other the fiery populist-turned-hardliner. Both are now gone. The regime has been dealt a wound it may never recover from.
