Correctional Employee Week honors the brave men and women who have chosen to devote their careers to public safety in the field of corrections and provides an opportunity to acknowledge and express gratitude for the unwavering efforts of Florida's correctional professionals.
“Correctional officers have one of the most difficult jobs in America. Each day, they put themselves in dangerous and potentially harmful situations to protect others in the facility from anything that may arise.
“In addition to interfacing with incarcerated individuals, correctional officers are responsible for ensuring facilities are clean, completing necessary paperwork, and providing proper care and rehabilitative services to the incarcerated.
“These brave men and women not only face physical challenges posed by their jobs, but mental challenges as well. The nature of the job requires them to spend countless hours on their feet, inside dimly lit facilities, and handle sensitive situations swiftly and professionally.
“Because of the physical and mental toll correctional officers face on a daily basis, it is critical we protect these hard-working men and women at all costs. They keep our communities safe and ensure that incarcerated individuals receive important rehabilitative care.
“The United Federation LEOS-PBA Law Enforcement Officers Security & Police Benevolent Association are proud to represent these brave workers and celebrate their contributions to our society year-round and during National Correctional Officers Week.”
